ABOUT US
Smoky Mountain Fire Equipment & Services incorporated as a new entity in April of 2016. Using over twenty-five years of firefighting knowledge and experience, our mission is to better equip and train fire fighters with the ever-changing standards for the purpose of improving protection in their communities. The beginnings of SMFES are humble, but a vital need to the fire community. A reliable resource, locally based and readily mobile to handle the Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) used by fire fighters in every department to inspect, test, and recertify as safe.
Every department is required by DOT, Part 49 to hydro test the SCBA used in emergency conditions. Depending on the cylinder, testing can be as often as every three years, five years to fifteen years. This applies to not only the fire service, but any cylinder based usage such as paintball, SCUBA, hospitals air tanks, and other compressed air uses. All masks worn with the air cylinders for breathing must have a minimum of one annual test as required by OSHA 1910.134 and NFPA 1852 standards. In order to accomplish this many companies, have to rotate out their equipment in parts to minimize down time, which could be as long as two weeks, while these vital tests are being performed, or pay for the travel expenses of a company out of state to come in and do the testing on site. Because there is no immediate accessibility to hydro-testing businesses most fire departments fail to adhere to the recommended guidelines.
Smoky Mountain Fire Equipment & Services was created to be a multifaceted company to help fellow brethren attack these shortcomings. We take pride in introducing a fixed service facility hydro-test. (Future services coming in Summer 2017). By using the latest equipment that is NFPA/Manufacturer compliant we will help to ensure the safety of those who keep us safe. We also have a showroom attached to our shop carrying the latest in Tool, Equipment, PPE, and other items your department or business may need for their fire and safety programs.
